PHILADELPHIA — The curious case of Paul Jones has taken a new twist.

The once-touted high school prospect — who, hindered by academic and personal issues, never played a down as a Penn State quarterback — announced Monday via Twitter where he will play next year.

Fans of the Division I-AA Robert Morris Colonials: Meet Paul Jones.

I'll be going to school at Robert Morris University and will be playing football there, Jones posted on his personal Twitter account (C1nd3rellaMan). A few minutes later, he tweeted, Blessed for all the lessons I've learned and people I've met during my time at Penn State.

A phone call to Jones, who left the Nittany Lions in late September for personal reasons, was not immediately returned.

The McKees Rocks, Pa., native redshirted in 2010 — his freshman year — and sat out last season for academic reasons. In spring practice, Jones was a candidate for starting quarterback. Senior Matt McGloin, a former walk-on, won the job, and so began a series of events in which Jones ultimately fell from second-string quarterback to No. 3 on the depth chart behind true freshman Steven Bench.

Jones then began to practice as a tight end in an effort to get the muscular 6-foot-3, 258-pound athlete on the field. He told reporters he initially struggled with accepting his new position. Apparently, he never fully embraced it.

Jones left the team four games into the season. He became the 14th player to leave the Nittany Lions since the NCAA levied its heavy sanctions against the program for the Jerry Sandusky scandal. Nine players transferred, while five, including Jones, remained students at Penn State.
