(AP) An interview on Fox News Channel has ended abruptly after an author accused the network of operating as a wing of the Republican Party.

The network on Monday was interviewing Thomas Ricks, a veteran newspaper reporter with a new book, The Generals. Ricks accused Fox of being extremely political and hyping the story of the Sept. 11 killing of four Americans in Benghazi, Libya.

He was on the network to talk about Republican criticism of U.N. Ambassador Susan Rice's comments about the attacks. Republicans have insisted that she should have labeled it an act of terrorism rather than cite a protest over an anti-Muslim video.

Fox executive Michael Clemente says it's clear that Ricks came on to draw attention to himself and his book.
