EAST UNION TWP. – Genco ATC, North America's second-largest third-party logistics provider, has expanded its presence in the Humboldt Industrial Park near Hazleton for the second time in less than four months.
Genco has leased an additional 203,821 square feet from Mericle Commercial Real Estate Services and now occupies the entire 408,200-square-foot building at 61 Green Mountain Road that Mericle built on speculation several years ago.
The company will use the additional space to provide warehousing, distribution and supply-chain services to a large consumer products company.
In August, the company moved from a smaller building in the Humboldt Industrial Park to the larger facility, leasing about 205,000 square feet.
The company is headquartered in Pittsburgh and manages more than 38 million square feet of warehouse space at 130 operations and more than $1.5 billion in transportation annually throughout the United States, Canada and Mexico. Founded in 1898, Genco is a privately held company with more than 10,000 employees. There was no detail of how many the Humboldt warehouse employs, but Mericle spokesman Jim Cummings noted per our lease, we have set aside 110 parking spaces for their employees. Messages left with the company's spokesman were not returned.
Humboldt Industrial Park continues to be a desired location for industrial companies, said Mericle Vice President Bill Jones. We've completed leases in the park with three firms in recent months and are working with several other companies that are showing strong interest in our Humboldt properties.
Since August, in addition to Genco, Mericle also has completed leases with E.S. Kluft & Co. and PECO Pallet in the park that straddles the Luzerne and Schuylkill county line and includes portions of Hazle and East Union townships along I-81.
