HANOVER TWP. â?? A township man surrendered Friday on vehicular homicide charges for a crash that killed an elderly couple on the San Souci Parkway in August, 2011.
Kevin Michael Allen, 35, of Martin Street, was charged by township police with two counts of homicide by vehicle and one count each of careless driving, speeding, and driving a vehicle with an unsafe load. He was arraigned by District Judge Joseph Halesey in Hanover Township and released on $5,000 unsecured bail.
Township police allege Allen was operating a 2002 Chevrolet truck with a payload of 960 pounds of concrete mix when he crashed into a 2006 Chevrolet Impala driven by Edward Skwirut, 89, on Aug. 4, 2011. Skwirut and his wife Dorothy, 86, both of Nanticoke, died from their injuries, township police said.
A state police accident reconstruction alleged Allen was driving in excess of 65 MPH when he crashed into the Skwirutâ??s vehicle head-on. Allen is scheduled for a preliminary hearing on Dec. 17.
