HANOVER TWP. – In an effort to cut energy costs, the Hanover School Board voted Thursday to look into securing an estimate from Clear Choice Energy, a Pittsburgh-based energy management firm, on revenue potential with the Demand Response Program.
By voluntarily adjusting temperatures and limiting air conditioning use through the summer months, the district could save as much as 25 percent in electric costs, said business administrator Tom Cipriano Jr., adding there would be no cost to the district to participate in the program.
In other business, board member Frank Ciavarella Jr. proposed establishing an anti-bullying campaign throughout the district. He suggested placing posters throughout the schools and buses, which would alert students with a hotline to anonymously report incidents of bullying. The hotline would be staffed by district employees, he added. “If we could help one student, it’s well worth it,” he said. The board will meet with the school guidance counselors at a work session on Oct. 16 at 6 p.m. in the board room at the high school to discuss the proposed initiative.
The board voted to appoint or re-appoint the following extra-curricular personnel, as recommended by the athletic director for the 2010-11 school year:
Shannon Morio-Bennett, seventh- and eighth-grade cheerleading-$1,395; Jillian Bolesta, assistant volleyball,-$1,530; Derrick Angradi, ninth-grade girls’ basketball-$2,628; Kenneth Angradi, girls’ varsity basketball-$2,822; Kimberly Kunec, assistant varsity swimming-$1,454; Elizabeth Kunec, assistant varsity swimming-$1,494; and Joshua Pstrak, eighth-grade boys’ basketball-$2,546.
