CHAMPAIGN, Ill. — Brandon Paul scored 17 points, Tracy Adams added 13 and No. 10 Illinois pulled away late to remain unbeaten with a 66-53 victory over Eastern Kentucky on Sunday night.
In a game between undefeated teams, the Illini led by 11 early but needed a late 12-2 run to gain control and help John Groce become only the second coach in Illinois history to win his first 12 games. Groce matched the school record for the best start by a first-year coach set by Fletcher Lane in 1907.
Joseph Bertrand chipped in with 11 points for Illinois.
Corey Walden scored 21 points and Glenn Cosey had 11 for the Colonels (9-1), who came in riding the school's best start in 66 years. Eastern Kentucky hadn't won nine straight games since the 1964-65 season.
STILLWATER, Okla. — Le'Bryan Nash scored 19 points, Markel Brown had 14 points and eight rebounds and No. 24 Oklahoma State overcame a slow start to beat Central Arkansas.
The Cowboys (8-1) fell behind by 11 in the first 8 minutes of the game, but responded with 13 straight points to take the lead for good.
Phil Forte had 12 points and Michael Cobbins and Marcus Smart each scored 10 for Oklahoma State.
Jordan Harks tied his career high with 16 points and Jarvis Garner added 14 points for Central Arkansas (4-4). The Bears played with starting point guard LaQuentin Miles, their second-leading scorer, because of a broken hand.
The Cowboys racked up a 53-35 rebounding advantage and outscored the Bears 44-26 in the paint.
ATHENS, Ga. — Guard Jasmine James and Tiaria Griffin each scored 18 points, leading No. 6 Georgia over Lipscomb.
Anne Marie Armstrong added 15 points and Shacobia Barbee 13 for Georgia (11-0).
Hannah Phillips had 11 points for Lipscomb (1-7).
STATE COLLEGE — Nikki Greene scored 15 points and Alex Bentley 13 as No. 11 Penn State pulled away to beat South Dakota State.
The game was tied at 25 before Penn State (9-2) scored the first seven points of the second half. Ashley Eide scored 14 points for the Jackrabbits (6-5).
NORMAN, Okla. (AP) — Christina Foggie scored 17 points and Vanderbilt upset No. 12 Oklahoma for its fifth straight victory.
AUSTIN, Texas — Meighan Simmons scored 18 points and No. 13 Tennessee beat No. 18 Texas for the fourth straight year.
Ariel Massengale and Taber Spani had 15 points each for Tennessee (7-1).
NEW YORK — Jasmine Dixon's layup with 1.2 seconds left in overtime sent No. 14 UCLA past St. John's in the championship game of the St. John's Holiday Classic.
ROCHESTER, Mich. — Drey Mingo scored 19 points and No. 15 Purdue shot 56 percent from the field in its win over Oakland.
Dee Dee Williams had 14 points and Courtney Moses scored 13 for the Boilermakers (10-1). Purdue has won five in a row and is off to its best start since the 2003-04 season.
STILLWATER, Okla. — Tiffany Bias scored 18 points and No. 16 Oklahoma State beat Vermont.
The Cowgirls have started 8-0 for the third straight season. They finished a six-game run at home in which they won by an average margin of 46.7 points.
CONWAY, S.C. — Antoinette Bannister came off the bench to score 13 points and No. 19 North Carolina defeated Coastal Carolina.
Monique Oliver scored 13 points and Rutgers held No. 21 Miami to its worst shooting performance of the season.
LAWRENCE, Kan. — Angel Goodrich scored 19 points and Tania Jackson had 13 points and 10 rebounds, leading No. 22 Kansas over Prairie View.
MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — Taylor Palmer scored 15 points and No. 25 West Virginia shot over 64 percent in defeating Youngstown State.
