DURYEA: Polish National Alliance District VII Northeastern Pennsylvania will hold its annual spelling bee at 1 p.m. on Sunday in the American Legion Post 585 hall, Main Street. Members in eighth grade only qualify. The local winner will be awarded a trip for two to take part in the Polish National Alliance national bee. Active registration is available online at the Hazleton Area School District website, www.hasdk12.org. Go to the registration tab, scroll down to registration, click on HASD registration and follow instructions. Registration is also available at the district website at http//registration.hasdk12.org. Registration should be completed prior to arrival at the Career Center.
Children must be five years of age on or before Sept. 1 to register for kindergarten. The following documents must be presented at registration, documentation of child's age, proof of immunization, three proofs of residency, parent registration statement (Act 26) and a home language survey.

Parents of registered kindergarten children will be notified concerning the date and time of orientation.
Children not enrolled in kindergarten, who will enter first grade in September and will be six years old on or before Sept. 1, should be registered at the Hazleton Area Career Center on the days designated for kindergarten registration. The same requirements mentioned above apply to children registering for first grade.

WILKES-BARRE: The regular monthly meeting of the St. David's Society of Wyoming Valley Inc. will be held at noon today at the Genetti Hotel and Conference Center, East Market Street. President Anthony T.P. Brooks will preside and there will be a meeting of the Banquet Committee at 11:30 a.m. Election of officers will also be held.
Plans will be finalized for the annual St. David's Banquet to be held on Feb. 24 at the Genetti Hotel and Conference Center. A Welsh market will be held at 2:30 p.m. Items include Welsh crafts, greeting cards in Welsh and English and other merchandise. Banquet room doors will open at 4 p.m. and dinner will be served at 4:30 p.m. Tickets are $25 per person and are available from any member. The program will be presented by Choral Arts of Luzerne County.
