KINGSTON: A competition for scholarships for this summer's Performing Arts Institute (PAI) at Wyoming Seminary College Preparatory School will take place in March. Students between the ages of 12 and 18 who are interested in musical theater are invited to compete.
The first round of the competition will be through submitted auditions (DVD or YouTube video). Contestants should register no later than 4 p.m. on March 6 by completing a Musical Theater Scholarship Competition registration form found on Seminary's web site at www.wyomingseminary.org under the PAI tab. All contestants must register online in addition to submitting an audition. DVD auditions should be postmarked no later than March 8.
The top six finalists will continue on to a PAI gala competition benefit performance on April 14. The finalists will compete for three scholarships. The first-place prize is a full scholarship; the second-place prize is a $1,000 scholarship; and the third-place prize is a $500 scholarship.
Contestants in the first round should be prepared to present a two- or three-minute excerpt from a Broadway musical song and a one-minute dialogue from an American copyrighted play or musical theater production.
The PAI is an intensive three-to-six-week learning experience in instrumental and vocal music, theater and dance. Musicians and teachers from around the country and the world present classes in advanced technique, music theory and performance skills.
