Hospice care solutions to be discussed on ‘Call the Doctor'

Hospice care solutions will be the next topic on ‘Call the Doctor' at 7 p.m. Nov. 27on WVIA-TV, Channel 44.


Moderator George Thomas will be joined by panelists Dr. Vincent Jay Vanston, FAAHPM clinical associate professor of medicine at The Commonwealth


Medical College; Dr. Alex Nesbitt, Susquehanna Health; Dr. Mary Catherine Cruciani, Internal Medicine and Primary, Care Geisinger Health System; and Philip George Decker, hospice.

Study finds Hazleton General among The Healthgrades America's 100 Best Hospitals For Pulmonary Care



Hazleton General Hospital honored for pulmonary care


Pulmonary care at Hazleton General Hospital is in the top 5 percent of the nation and was named America's 100 Best Hospitals for Pulmonary Care, according to a report from Healthgrades, the leading provider of information to help consumers make an informed decision about a physician or hospital.


Hazleton General Hospital also ranks No. 5 in Pennsylvania.


The report, American Hospital Quality Outcomes 2013: Healthgrades Report to the Nation, evaluates how approximately 4,500 hospitals nationwide performed on risk-adjusted mortality and complication rates for nearly 30 of the most common conditions treated and procedures performed from 2009 through 2011.



Introduction to Zen meditation scheduled


Introduction to Zen meditation will be held from 7:30-9 p.m. Nov. 27 at Mercy Center on the campus of Misericordia University.


The program will include an explanation of Zen meditation and the value of the practice, a short practice period and time for questions.


Pre-registration is required. A free-will offering will be taken.
