DUPONT: A sermon, soup and sandwich event will be held at noon Jan.12 at Holy Mother of Sorrows, 212 Wyoming Ave., in the church.

Dr. Jim Ploskonka will present God and Finances. He will speak about personal finances, specifically providing documented insights into how God has provided the means to be at peace with money and its use.

Ploskonka is a graduate of Mansfield University, where in 2012 he was honored to be inducted into the Hall of Fame for distinguished educators. He received a master's degree from the Boston Conservatory, his Ph.D. from the University of Kentucky in policy studies and evaluation and was recognized as the recipient of the Sagan Scholarship for the dissertation of the year. He recently completed additional studies at Harvard University in the College of Education's Management Institute specifically focusing on critical issues in higher education.

Fellowship with soup and sandwich will follow in the parish hall. All are invited. There is no charge.

HARDING: The Mount Zion United Methodist Church, Mount Zion Road, is holding an all-you-can-eat soup and salad supper from 4:30-6:30 p.m. today. A variety of soups, chili, salads, beverages and desserts will be available.

Cost for adults is $7 and for children is $5. Everyone is welcome.

WILKES-BARRE: Unity of NEPA: A Spiritual Center, 140 South Grant St., has announced the following events:

Jan. 16: The seven-part study series, The Bridge: A 7 Stage Map to Redefine Your Life and Purpose by Dr. Marilyn Powers and Steve Viglione, will begin. Week 1 will be hosted by Davienne Piatt covering Enlightenment through Pain. The session will be held from 6:30-8:30 p.m. A love offering will be taken.

Jan. 20: A Season for Non-Violence begins Jan. 20 and runs through April 4. To kick off the season, Unity will welcome Ron Gereda, facilitator of the Interfaith Resource Center for Peace and Justice Center. He will be sharing his Sunday talk Who Shall I Blame? at 10 a.m. and will continue to host a special 90-minute group discussion — I love my congregation; it's the people I can't stand! This will be an interactive time on dealing with the best and not-so-best of your loved ones and their friends.

Jan. 27: Let Your Heart Shine with the Rev. Diane Sickler. Service begins at 10 a.m.

Jan. 30: Social media seminar at 6:30 a.m. with Richard Pacheco. A love offering will be taken.
