Send holiday greetings to military men, women

Every year during the holiday season, we take time to reflect and give thanks for the many gifts in our lives. We gather with family and loved ones to share a touch of home.

It's during this special season the American Red Cross asks you to take the time to give something that means something to the men and women of the U.S. Armed Forces, our nation's veterans and their military families who might be separated from their loved ones or far from home.

You are invited to send holiday greeting cards with messages of thanks and support to our troops. Red Cross volunteers will screen, sort and deliver your cards to military installations as well as VA and military hospitals across the United States and around the world.

For details and guidelines, visit www.redcross.org/holidaymail. Or call our office at 207-0100.

Once you've read the guidelines, mail your card by Dec. 7 to: Holiday Mail for Heroes, P.O. Box 5456, Capitol Heights, MD 20791-5456.

Spread the word to your friends, family and neighbors, and let's give something that means something to our military men and women, their families and veterans in gratitude for their service.

Reader has big beef with ‘anti-meat rants'

Must The Times Leader's readers be subjected to letter writer Patricia Marks' anti-meat rants every holiday (Many reasons to ‘pass' on turkey, Nov. 18)?

We all know how she feels, so let us enjoy our poor mistreated turkeys in peace without being told we are destroying the world. What a bunch of – excuse the word – baloney.

Disgraced Army general should've heeded wisdom

Apparently retired Gen. David Petraeus never read about Samson and Delilah, nor heeded the words of the song My Mamma Done Tol' Me.
