Helping others breathe stirs fight for clean air

As a respiratory therapist for 28 years I have seen the disastrous impact of poor air quality.

Patients with asthma to COPD and chronic bronchitis come in daily, fighting for air, suffering from what we call air hunger. They become frightened as they gasp for air, becoming more anxious as they struggle. The anxiety and the shortness of breath build on each other.

I've seen first-hand the impact of air quality on those patients who lived in cities with a large amount of smog or air pollution. Unfortunately, those patients were unaware that they had a higher chance of being diagnosed with bronchitis and asthma.

Air quality can make a huge difference to those suffering from lung disease. As more people are being diagnosed with asthma, more people need to be aware of the impact of air pollution on their disease.

Please join the fight against weakening air pollution standards. Contact your elected officials and let them know that you expect them to fight for clean air and stand up to the companies that want to put profits before people.

Obama critics: Back off and get out of the way

Why are these Republicans and the tea party going against the seniors or our country?

All they are trying to do is take our livelihood away from us. We work all our lives to have a retirement with a little dignity.

We paid into the Social Security all our working years. We pay our Medicare out of our own Social Security checks every month, so we are not getting this free ride.

Instead of going after the seniors and the American people, why don't you people start cutting some of your benefits and also some of your perks and see how you would make out.

This is 2012, not 1980. You people are living in the past. Get a life.

By the way, these Republicans were in control of the House and Senate during the Bush administration. You saw how they almost drove our country into the gutter, but thanks to President Obama and the Democrats and the Independents, they got our country on the right track. In the last election the people spoke. They let our country know what they wanted done. They want compromise.

These Republicans are the ones who forced President Obama into borrowing the money. We have to save our country and not live under a dictatorship like these two parties want.

If these people knew how to run our government, we wouldn't be in this mess. Bush started two wars, and they were never even paid for. I just hope our American people remember this in the 2014 election.

God bless America, God bless the American people and God bless President Obama.
