You opened the doors to your business this past October. What was it like trying to get this business up and running? I ran another business for 15 years and after that I had another job that I simply was not happy with. I took a look at my skill set and developed a plan for the new shop. I was looking to start a business that I had some association with and could develop. I built the whole place myself through recycling items and hard work. I secured a location and financing and the process took approximately two years before I opened the doors and welcomed the public.
Speaking of the public, you seem to really care about what they feel or think. I love to build relationships. I think a lot of businesses these days simply count heads or cars and don't take the customer fully into account. I really care and believe that once I have a customer, I am pretty confident they will come back forever. I am planning a second location where I believe my business is needed and I will be even more available to the public.
How does that extend into your family life? It began with my stepfather, Edward Pappas. He taught me patience and made me feel like I can do anything. He was a quiet guy and I learned a lot by just watching him and doing things with him. Today I do lots of things with my own son and try to pass on good traits to him. My son is my passion. I love seeing him play baseball at a high level. We also hunt and fish together when we hang out.
With your passion for family and people, do you have a saying in life that corresponds with that theme? Treat people the way I would want to be treated.
What are your favorite foods? Fresh venison chops and chicken parmesan.
Favorite television shows? I enjoy Key & Peele on Comedy Central and the Outdoor Channel. I also like to watch baseball.
What music do you like to listen to? I like anything by the Allman Brothers or Santana.
Where do you like to travel to when not working? I enjoy taking my family to my cabin in Potter County. There are no phones and no red lights there. It's a good getaway. Eventually, I would like to visit Costa Rica. After all, it is the happiest place on earth.
What would you like to see improved upon in Northeastern Pennsylvania? I would like to see more kids stay in the area after graduation. There would have to be more opportunities here for future generations in order for that to happen.
