WILKES-BARRE – Police are investigating the shooting of a man at the Sherman Hills apartment complex Thursday night, marking the second shooting there this month and the fourth in the last six months.
City police Sgt. James Sheridan said a male was shot in the leg outside 332 Parkview Circle – a two-story apartment building in the 22-acre private housing complex – and that multiple shots were fired.
A Luzerne County 911 supervisor said the shooting was reported just after 6:30 p.m.
Sheridan said the shooting victim was taken to Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center in Plains Township.
He said no one was in custody and a city detective was investigating, adding that state police were called in to assist.
A man who identified himself as an assistant property manager and refused to provide his name asked that police order members of the media from the property about an hour after the shooting.
The man said he was following orders from the property owner. The property owner is listed with the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban development as Sherman Hills Realty LLC of Brooklyn, N.Y.
The complex is a trouble spot for police and has been plagued by several violent crimes just in the last six months.
Five people have been shot there in separate incidents since June 6, including a city police officer who was serving a warrant on Oct. 5, according to Times Leader archives.
Within that same time frame, there were also two incidents of shots being fired, a stabbing, two assaults (one against a pregnant woman), two burglaries and two drug arrests.
