The winner of the 2013 Marley's Mission Second Annual Art Contest is Peckville resident Kyle Liparulo, a 6-year-old kindergarten student at Valley View Elementary School.
The contest was open to all children in grades K-12 from anywhere in the United States. This year, the Art Committee received more than 60 entries. The artwork was displayed at a First Friday event Dec. 7 at Starbucks in The Mall at Steamtown. People who attended the First Friday showing had a chance to pay $1 to vote for their favorite drawing, and a People's Choice Award Winner – Kyle's drawing – was chosen. All money raised went directly to Marley's Mission.
The theme of this year's art contest was What Does a Forever Home Mean to You? – a theme chosen to reflect the fact that Marley's Mission has found its forever home on a beautiful 32.4-acre property in Newton Township.
Marley's Mission, currently based in Lake Ariel, is a non-profit organization that provides Equine-Assisted Psychotherapy at no cost to children and families who have experienced trauma.
