Dan Meuser is thinking about running for Congress in the 10th District.

But he lives in the 11th District.

Meuser, president of Pride Mobility Products Corp., is expected to seek the Republican nomination for the seat held by first-term Democrat Chris Carney of Dimock Township. Meuser lives in Jackson Township, which lies within the 11th District.

“My home sits 225 yards from the district line,” Meuser said. “The district line runs like a jagged edge through my neighborhood.”

Will he move?

“Let me just say that I will be a resident and registered voter of the 10th District by the time I make my announcement,” Meuser said. “There will be many issues in the upcoming campaign; my residency will not be one of those issues.”

The residency issue was alluded to in a recent poll conducted by potential candidate Joe Peters. In that poll, 60 percent of the people who responded said they would be more inclined to vote for a resident of the district. Peters announced last week that he will not enter the race.

Chris Hackett, a declared candidate for the Republican nomination for the 10th District seat, said he feels the significance of the issue rests with the voters.

“I think the voters will decide how important this issue is,” Hackett said. “We will see how they feel about it when the go to the polls April 22 (2008).”

Carney spokeswoman Rebecca Gale, said Carney moved to the district 15 years ago because he felt it was a great place to raise a family.

“If Dan Meuser decides to move into the 10th District, we welcome him,” Gale said. “Chris Carney already recognized what a great place it is to live 15 years ago.”

Carney, a lieutenant commander in the U.S. Naval Reserves, began two weeks of active duty last week.

Meuser said he has been meeting with voters, business people and elected officials throughout the 10th District.

“I think that’s the important issue here,” Meuser said. “Not my residency.”

“My home sits 225 yards from the district line. The district line runs like a jagged edge through my neighborhood.”
