Meyers debaters compete at Yale Invitational

The E. L. Meyers Speech and Debate team opened its 2012-13 season in competition at the Yale University Invitational in New Haven, Conn., on Sept. 21-23. Eight members of the team competed at the event, which was attended by hundreds of schools from throughout the nation. Seniors Tommy Lovecchio and Florence Kwok won three rounds out of five in policy debate. Juniors Michelle Chavez and Morgan Prince won two rounds out of five. Junior Julia Kerr and sophomore Emily Welles competed in congress. Junior Emmalie Langan and sophomore Olivia Richards competed in extemporaneous speaking. The team was assisted in coaching and judging capacities by team alumnae Sarah Borland and Melinda Formola. Policy debaters, from left, are Chavez, Lovecchio, Kwok and Prince.
