A mother accused with covering up a deadly shooting of 14-year-old Tyler Winstead in April surrendered Friday morning.

Angelina P. DeAbreu, 30, was released on $2,500 unsecured bail after she was arraigned by District Judge Rick Cronauer in Wilkes-Barre.

Luzerne County detectives and Wilkes-Barre police allege DeAbreu provided false information to investigators and hid a .22-caliber revolver after Winstead was critically injured inside her house at
117 Hill St. on April 5.

DeAbreu was allegedly at a pharmacy store when Winstead was shot inside her house.

Investigators allege DeAbreu‚??s son, Elijah Yusiff, 14, removed the revolver from a hollowed-out book that had a combination lock while Winstead sat on a bed in the house.

Yusiff allegedly admitted he had his finger on the trigger and the firearm discharged a round as he turned to show the firearm to Winstead.

Yusiff told investigators he carried Winstead from the house and placed him on Hill Street, claiming his friend was shot in a drive-by shooting by a man in a red Ford, according to the criminal complaint.

Investigators allege in the complaint DeAbreu and Yusiff covered up the shooting saying they did not have any firearms in the house.

DeAbreu removed the firearm from her residence and had a friend request neighbors to hide the firearm, the complaint alleges.

Yusiff hid the spent shell casing in a pile of scrap metal behind Winstead‚??s residence at 119 Hill St., where it was found by investigators, according to the complaint.

Investigators recovered the hollowed-out book from a residence in New Jersey but have not found the .22-caliber revolver.

Yusiff was charged with an unknown offense in May.
Court records say DeAbreu, represented by Attorney Thomas Marsilio, opted to bypass a preliminary hearing waiving charges of evidence tampering, false reports to law enforcement and corruption of minors to Luzerne County Court.

DeAbreu removed her belongings from 117 Hill St. and relocated to East Stroudsburg in Monroe County in early May.

The charges are all misdemeanors.
