(AP) The head of an Oregon investment research firm has been sentenced in New York to more than four years in prison for an insider trading conviction.

John Kinnucan (kih-NOO'-kuhn), of Portland, was sentenced Tuesday.

He pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit securities fraud and two counts of securities fraud.

He apologized for his crimes and his lawyer asked that he serve only two years in prison.

Judge Deborah Batts decried his obscene, hateful rants directed at investigators before his arrest.

Kinnucan admitted giving hedge funds and money managers inside information between 2008 and 2010. At the time, he was president of Broadband Research LLC.

He's been behind bars since he was accused of making the obscenity-laced phone calls to prosecutors and FBI agents.
