Alexandra Baran, a senior at MMI Preparatory School, won the Emerging Photographer online photo feed contest sponsored by Photo District News magazine and was featured in a story about her work in the fall 2012 issue of Emerging Photographer. The magazine provides news, analysis, interviews and portfolios of the latest photographic work. The feature included several of Baran's photos, including Images of Broken Light, which was posted to Baran's winning photo feed. She will also receive a camera from Sony. Baran, the daughter of Richard and Maxine Baran, Sugarloaf, would like to attend the Pratt Institute in Brooklyn and study advertisement photography.
Roger Knittle, a junior at MMI Preparatory School, attended The Norwich University Future Leader Camp over the summer break at the nation's first senior military college in Northfield, Vt. The camp included physical fitness training, paintball, rappelling, a climbing wall, basic first aid training, crisis preparedness, water survival skills, orienteering and leadership classes. Participants spent a day of rappelling on the 80-foot cliffs of Deer Leap Mountain in Killington, Vt., and participated in a seven-mile hike over Mount Ascutney. Knittle, the son of Roger and Sherry Knittle, Ringtown, is a member of the National Honor Society, German National Honor Society, Science Iditarod and varsity baseball team. He also volunteers for road cleanup along Route 940 and works as a vendor at flea markets.
