7 p.m. today
The Coaches: Nanticoke's Ron Bruza (9-15, 3rd year); Northwest's Carl Majer (32-18, 5th year)
Last Meeting: Northwest 34-30 in 2011
All-Time Series: Nanticoke leads 8-7
Quick Fact: Northwest has averaged 41 points per game in winning the last five meetings.
Scouting Nanticoke: The final scores of the Trojans' last two games – losses of 45-16 to Meyers and 44-14 to Wyoming Area – aren't indicative of how hard they made those teams work for wins. Both were close into the third quarter.
The problem has been opponents have been able to find an area to exploit. Meyers used the pass; Wyoming Area used the run. Until last week, Nanticoke was respectable against the run and will need to crank it up against Northwest, which will certainly run a lot.
Scouting Northwest: The Rangers used their best weapon to pull away from Hanover Area for a 34-13 victory. RB Tony Politz had 140 yards and three TDs. His sidekick, Austin Mazonkey, added 112 and a score on just eight carries. The run-pass balance had tilted toward the duo and for good reason.
The defense has been solid against the run and will be tested throughout the game since Nanticoke doesn't throw too much.
What To Expect: Nanticoke will sell out vs. the run and try to make Northwest win by throwing the ball. If the Trojans can't stop the run, though, their chance of winning diminish greatly.
