(AP) The CEO of the company that owns the Orange County Register says he may want to buy Tribune Co.'s newspapers after the media conglomerate emerges from bankruptcy.

Aaron Kushner told The Associated Press on Thursday that he and his partners have the resources to seriously consider buying the newspapers, and the publications may have what he looks for in an acquisition target. But he cautions that he hasn't examined the Tribune's finances.

Tribune owns the Chicago Tribune, Los Angeles Times, Baltimore Sun and five other daily newspapers.

Kushner says he expects the Tribune's new owners would sell the newspapers together instead of auctioning them off separately.

Kushner is the CEO of Freedom Communications Inc., which publishes the Orange County Register. He and a group of investors bought Freedom in July.
