Ask Dorothy O'Connor what is exciting about the upcoming Heroes and Subs Preview Party and Judging Feb. 15 and she will say: It's a party. She will also mention The Incredible Hulk is her favorite superhero.

While the Heroes & Subs Table Decorating Competition to be held Feb. 16 is for children and adults, a preview party Friday evening is geared for the adult characters. The party will begin at 7 p.m. at the Ramada Inn, Clarks Summit.

It's a night to get out and have fun, said O'Connor, event co-chair and owner, Sole to Soul. Plans for the evening, which is being held in conjunction with the Clarks Summit Festival of Ice, presented by the Abington Business and Professional Association during Presidents' Day Weekend, Feb. 14 to 18, include the judging of approximately 25 superhero-inspired decorated tables, complimentary hors d'oeuvres, wine, beer, a silent auction and musical entertainment provided by Frankie Carll Productions. A cash bar will also be available. Mary Ann Nichols is co-chairperson of the event.

I'm excited about what people are going to decorate their tables with and how outrageous people will get. If they're going to do a simple table setting with a centerpiece, or are they going to decorate the chairs? said O'Connor. Everybody loves superheroes. The whole superhero theme seems to appeal to everyone. I picture the room being larger than life…simple and intricate and also grand with a big superhero in the center of the table. I've pictured everything in my head.

Attendees are invited to dress in their favorite superhero costumes, according to O'Connor.

Tables will be judged on originality, creativity and use of materials (recycling).

Tickets to the party are $50 and proceeds will benefit the Abington Area Community Classroom at the former Clarks Summit Fire House.

The deadline to register for the table decorating competition is Feb. 7. Setup for the competition Feb. 15, noon to 6 p.m.

For more information or to purchase tickets for the luncheon, contact Sarah Dawgert at, or contact O'Connor, Sole to Soul, 570.585.0439.

Sponsors for the preview party and luncheon are The Ramada Inn and Damon's Bar and Grill. Prize sponsors are Talbots; Mohegan Sun at Pocono Downs, RailRiders and Elk Mountain. The Abington Journal is media sponsor.
