A 20-minute case of road rage on eastbound Interstate 80 led to one vehicle rolling over onto its roof and charges filed against three people Friday, state police said.
State police said a 2004 Peterbilt tractor-trailer operated by Gregory Moore of Bloomsburg was alongside a 1994 Chevrolet Blazer operated by Earl Newberry of East Stroudsburg while both vehicles were eastbound on I-80 near the Light Street exit in Columbia County at 7:15 p.m. One vehicle cut in front of the other, but state police did not identify which vehicle.
Khaalis Dismond of Dorchester, Mass., a passenger in the rear seat of Newberry’s vehicle, then pointed a silver-colored Crossman air handgun at Moore while both vehicles were side by side, state police said. Newberry then sped away and Moore chased after him while calling state police in Bloomsburg and Hazleton.
Moore told state police he was going to run Newberry’s vehicle off the interstate, state police said. When the vehicles entered Luzerne County, Moore pulled his tractor-trailer up to Newberry’s vehicle, forcing it off the south berm of the interstate, state police said.
State police said Newberry lost control of the vehicle, striking tree and rolling onto its roof.
Ryan Kepler of Stanhope, N.J., a passenger in Newberry’s vehicle, was taken to the Geisinger Medical Center in Danville for treatment. Newberry and Dismond were also injured, state police said.
Criminal charges of terroristic threats and disorderly conduct and traffic charges will be filed against Moore, Newberry and Dismond, state police said.
