Severe storms Thursday night caused nearly 1,000 PPL customers to experience power outages.

According to the PPL Outage Center website, some 976 customers in the Pittston area were without service at 11:15 p.m.

BUTLER TWP. â?? Police are investigating a crash that occurred on South Hunter Highway near Foothills Drive on Thursday around 2:30 p.m.

Police said a Suzuki motorcycle operated by Matthew Kaschak, 20, of Drums, traveling south, struck the side of a vehicle operated by Lillian L. Curry, 78, of Sugarloaf, who was pulling out of a driveway.

Kaschak was taken by helicopter to Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center, Plains Township, where he was listed in critical condition Thursday night. Curry was taken to Hazleton General Hospital.
