WILKES-BARRE – A resident of the Sherman Hills apartment complex reported being beaten and robbed in a home invasion last week.
Sahann Graham, of 316 N. Empire Court, told police that two males brandishing three handguns entered his apartment through the unlocked door at about 11:30 p.m. on Jan. 24 and ordered everyone onto the floor.
The suspects then ordered everyone into the bathroom and demanded cash. Graham told them he had no cash, and they struck him in the back of the head with a gun, police said.
The suspects then made Graham go into the kitchen, tied him up, hit in the head for about 20 minutes and left through a rear door, police said. They stole a cellphone, Emerson 32-inch flat-screen television, a Sony PlayStation 3 game system and cash.
The suspects are described as black males about 18 or 19 years old, wearing black Marmot jackets, black sweat pants, black Nike sneakers and ski masks.
BUTLER TWP. – Township police reported the following:
• A resident of the 200 block of Four Seasons Drive in Beech Mountain Lakes reported her vehicle was ransacked and credit cards and personal identification cards were stolen during the early morning hours on Jan. 25.
• Police said they charged Eric T. Cruz, 25, of Philadelphia, after he attempted to smuggle marijuana into the Keystone Job Corps Center on Sunday. The marijuana was found in a stereo, police said.
Cruz was charged with possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance and other drug-related offenses. He was released on unsecured bail.
• Police said James R. Scallion, 48, of Sugarloaf Township, was not injured when he lost control of his vehicle on an ice-covered St. Johns Road on Monday. The vehicle struck a guide rail and went down an embankment.
• Police are investigating a burglary at a residence in the 200 block of South Old Turnpike Road on Tuesday. Jewelry was reported stolen.
DUPONT – State police Bureau of Liquor Control Enforcement recently cited Richard Bekanich, doing business as Andy's Café, 617 Main St., with possessing or operating gambling devices or permitted gambling or lotteries.
SUGAR NOTCH – Police arrested Nicholas J. Pugliese Jr., 25, of Freed Street, for allegedly stealing jewelry from his mother to support a heroin addiction.
Pugliese was charged with theft and receiving stolen property. He was jailed at the Luzerne County Correctional Facility for lack of $10,000 bail on Thursday.
Pugliese stole jewelry from his mother from Dec. 24 through Jan. 23, selling the items at a Wilkes-Barre pawn shop for money to buy heroin, according to the criminal complaint.
