Police impound pickup in hit-and-run fatality

WILKES-BARRE - City police have impounded a suspect vehicle in the hit-and-run death of 19-year-old Rebecca McCallick.

Wilkes-Barre Detective David Sobocinski said a 2006 Ford F-350 Super Duty turbo diesel pickup was located at 71 W. Liberty St., Hanover Township, shortly after 10 p.m. Thursday night and impounded by police.

Sobocinski said township police cover that section of Newtown and assisted. He said the vehicle was unattended but he would not describe it as being abandoned.

He would not release the name of the registered owner of the vehicle. He said no arrest has been made.

The Ford was transported to city police headquarters where it was placed in the basement garage.

McCallick died after being struck by a vehicle in front of her apartment at 199 Hazle Ave., Wilkes-Barre, on July 24. She was a student at King’s College and a graduate of Crestwood School District.
