Luzerne County District Attorney Stefanie Salavantis tonight identified the person of interest in a hit-and-run accident that killed a 5-year-old on Dec. 21 as Tom Letteer.

I fully believe that he was the person who was involved in the accident, Salavantis said, adding that Letteer has been cooperating with investigators.

UPDATED: 5:13 P.M.

In a release issued today, District Attorney Stefanie Salavantis and the Wilkes-Barre Police Department said they have identified a “person of interest” in the fatal hit and run investigation of Kevin Miller. A search warrant is being actively prepared to seize the person of interest’s vehicle that matches the physical description of the red Pontiac Grand-Am, four-door sedan, described by eyewitnesses. The vehicle was located on Mack Street in Plains Township.

Investigators intend to have the vehicle analyzed by the Pennsylvania State Police Forensics Unit for DNA and any other corroborating evidence. Local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies played an instrumental role in bringing this investigation to this point.

“We have all been emotionally affected by this tragic incident,” Salavantis said. “I can’t say enough about the tireless effort by investigators to track this vehicle down. I am pleased that we can report some progress today for the family and friends of the victim, but this investigation is far from over.”

“Every investigation offers unique challenges but our detectives and officers followed up on hundreds of leads that didn’t pan out before we were able to identify this vehicle, added Wilkes-Barre Police Chief Gerard Dessoye. It is a credit to them and the other agencies involved that they persevered and advanced the investigation.”
