Parade means green for Scranton

In step with Irish pride

Conservative estimates put the crowd at 140,000--and that's just those on the street.  Former committee president Tom Cummings believes those in bars and restaurants and at indoor parties could take that number as high as 250,000.  "It's the best year we've ever had," he said.

It's an annual tradition in the Electric City, one that has grown over the years and continues to draw the Irish and the Irish-at-heart from near and far.  It's a day  when everyone in downtown Scranton is a little bit Irish.

"It's obviously a celebration of faith and family and friends," said parade committee chaplain Msgr. Joseph Quinn.  "If you look up these streets, you just see smiling faces and it's wonderful.  A sign of great community."
