Solomon Plains Junior High School, Plains Township, recently collected new and colorful socks for foster care children across the country as part of the Socks for Smiles project. The project was started in 2007 by Leslie Moshman, Vergo Beach, Fla. A former foster child, Moshman has not worn plain white socks since she was adopted because that was all she was allowed to wear while in foster care. Some of the participants, from left: James Fisher; Hannah Redding; Rachel Lacomy; Mindy Heffron, adviser; Katelyn Clewell; and Lauren Austin.
