KINGSTON -- Wyoming Valley West School Board members heard more comments about the district's music program at Wednesday's meeting.
Paul Gardner of Plymouth spoke in support of the district's elementary music program. He asked the board to consider the importance of music education, saying, There is a child who was transformed by the music program.
Gardner had attended January's meeting with a large group of district residents expressing concern over a board resolution passed in December. The resolution allows the board to make substantial changes to the elementary music program.
The board also heard from senior Kaitlyn Miller, who has been chosen as Miss Teen Pennsylvania. Miller presented her personal platform, which includes her support of a number of charities.
In other matters:
A contract of $201,587 was awarded for network equipment to integraOne of Allentown. The contract stipulates that the district receive a 90 percent discount on eligible items and service for a total project cost of less than $31,000.
The board approved the Baseball Booster Club's request to have Elston Landscaping and Excavating of Dallas and BSI Sign and Lighting of Larksville install a scoreboard at the baseball field.
The board voted to accept bids for medical, dental, paper and general supplies with a deadline of March 12.
