Stanley D. and Kathryn E. Joseph are celebrating their 40th wedding anniversary today, Nov. 25, 2012. Stan and Kathy were married at St. Boniface Roman Catholic Church, Wilkes-Barre, by the late Rev. Charles Rokosz.
Kathy is the former Kathy Hoffman, daughter of the late George N. Hoffman Sr. and Kathryn Malta Hoffman, Lee Park section, Hanover Township. She graduated from Hanover Township Memorial High School Class of 1968.
Stan (Sandy) is the son of the late Second Lieutenant Stanley Joseph Gluzkowski Sr., who died in World War II, and the late John (Jackie Joe) Joseph and Phyllis Wasley Joseph of Iona Place section, Hanover Township. Stan graduated from Hanover Township Memorial High School Class of 1963.
Stan and Kathy have been the owners S&K Vending for 34 years.
Kathy started on the job training in April 1968 with the late Triangle Shoe Company, Kingston, as a secretary/bookkeeper for seven years.
Stan worked at McDonald's on the Sans Souci Highway from 1963 to 1966 as a manager. In 1966 Stan worked at the Triangle Shoe Company, starting as a warehouseman and then a truck driver from March 1973 to February 1975. Triangle Shoe claimed Chapter 11. He then worked for TV Readers, Inc., Forty Fort, as a foreman. His dream, since being a truck driver and independent, was to own his own business. That came about in 1978 when Stan and Kathy purchased a small vending route from Gibson's Vending and a year later another one from Andy's Vending. In 1981 Stan went full-time vending and now is full-line vending with more than 300 machines throughout Wyoming Valley and Luzerne and Lackawanna counties.
Both sons, since high school graduation, have worked in the business full time and have each put their individual qualities into keeping the Ma & Pa business in full operation.
Their two sons, both of Hunlock Creek, are Chris and his wife, Kristina, with two puppies and one kitty, and Nick and his two children, Nicholas John and Emilie Rose.
