UK man detained in CAR returns to Britain

(AP) U.K. Foreign Secretary William Hague says a British safari driver jailed in the Central African Republic on suspicion of killing 13 people has returned to Britain after being cleared of all charges.

David Simpson, 24, was arrested on March 26 after he reported the discovery of 13 bodies with bound hands and machete wounds by a small-scale gold mine in the eastern part of the Central African Republic.

He was released in August after all charges were dropped, having spent five months incarcerated, but had to wait to return to the U.K.

Hague said Saturday he was "delighted to confirm" that Simpson is now back in Britain.

Hague says he had raised the case with his counterpart in the Central African Republic in August.
