(AP) US Airways flight attendants will soon vote on a contract that could increase their pay and put them in a better position for any future mergers.

The Association of Flight Attendants-CWA said Thursday that it reached a tentative agreement with US Airways for a contract covering all of the company's mainline flight attendants. The union said the agreement provides the opportunity to work as partners in a potential merger.

US Airways is seeking a merger with American Airlines' parent company AMR Corp., which filed for bankruptcy protection in 2011 and is facing intense pressure from creditors to consider the deal.

The union said its negotiating committee backed the labor agreement. A vote will be set and announced on Friday.
