U.S. Representative: 11th Congressional District

JOBS

Gene Stilp:
Favors preservation and expansion of the job base in the 1.1th District; will put forth initiatives that create jobs and encourage businesses to hire more.

Lou Barletta:
Favors helping small businesses to expand and create jobs; wants to address taxation and the effects health care reform will have on business.

GOVERNMENT WASTE

Stilp:
Will scrutinize federal spending closely and will not be afraid to speak out on waste, fraud or mismanagement.

Barletta:
Feels Congress and the president have spent the country into servitude, piling up a debt that might never be repaid.

IMMIGRATION

Stilp:
The United States must follow existing laws; people who are here illegally need to become citizens.

Barletta:
United States needs to stop the flow of illegal immigrants across its borders; need to crack down on fraudulent documents and the criminals who make them.

SOCIAL SECURITY/MEDICARE

Stilp:
He wants to preserve Medicare and Social Security and opposes Medicare vouchers and the privitization of Social Security. To save Medicare he would gradually raise the payroll tax. On Social Security, Stilp would raise or even lift the cap on income subject to the payroll tax.

Barletta:
These benefits should be protected, the retirement age should not be raised, and taxes should not be increased on current enrollees. He opposes any attempts to cut Social Security benefits and he favors preserving Medicare.

IRAN

Stilp:
Opposes nuclear weapons in Iran and favors increasing our protection against cyber attacks.

Barletta:
Iran should not be allowed to develop nuclear weaponry; the world is not a uniformly safe and secure place; millions of people live in fear of physical attack.

HEALTH CARE

Stilp:
Like Barletta, he favors coverage of pre-existing conditions and children up to age 26. He said billions of dollars can be cut in health care in areas such as over-prescribing of medications, administrative costs and unneeded services.

Barletta:
Says the health care system is broken. Attributes it to runaway cost increases, the medical malpractice insurance crisis and the failure of politicians in Washington to enact meaningful health care reform. Feels everyone should have access to affordable, quality health care.
