WEST WYOMING -- The Abrahams Creek Watershed Association received $5,000 from Pennsylvania American Water Co., borough council announced Monday.
Council member Eileen Cipriani said the money would be used for a stream-bank restoration project and work on a catch basin at the top of Sixth Street.
In related business, council voted to apply for a state Growing Greener grant to restore a 150-foot section of a bank along Abrahams Creek that was destroyed in the 2006 flooding.
The grant would also help pay for energy dissipation devices, which would slow the flow of water in the creek.
Council also voted to apply for two state grants that would help the borough save energy. The borough will apply for an intermunicipal grant with Wyoming Borough that would be used to replace mercury vapor street lights in both boroughs.
If the grant is approved, the lights will be replaced with induction lighting, which uses less energy and will reduce energy consumption by at least 25 percent, Cipriani said.
Another grant that council voted to apply for will be used to make the town hall more energy efficient by updating the heating and air-conditioning system, installing energy-efficient windows and other measures.
In other business, Mayor Joseph Herbert announced that Hose Company No. 1 would celebrate its centennial with a bazaar on Saturday, Aug. 15.
Plans include a parade, and a car, truck and bike show.
Those interested in volunteering are urged to attend a planning meeting at the hose company on Shoemaker Street at 7 p.m. Thursday.
