TUNKHANNOCK – The Wyoming County District Attorney's Office is investigating the death of Tunkhannock man shot by police who were attempting to serve him with an involuntary mental health commitment order.
Brian P. Williams, 42, of Lake Winola, was fatally wounded Wednesday after troopers from the state police barracks in Tunkhannock and officers from Overfield Township, Tunkhannock Township and Meshoppen Borough police departments responded to his home, District Attorney Jeff Mitchell and state police said in press releases.
State police in Tunkhannock said that an altercation had occurred between Williams and police and that police had used a Taser on Williams before he was fatally shot.
Wyoming County Coroner Thomas Kukuchka pronounced Williams dead. An autopsy was scheduled for Thursday, police said.
Mitchell said Williams was shot by one of the officers, whom he did not identify.
Mitchell said the circumstances surrounding the shooting are being investigated by his office and state police. He said there will be no further comment until the investigation in completed.
WILKES-BARRE – Two people were arrested and drugs were seized during the search of a home on South Hancock Street on Tuesday, police said.
State police in Wyoming said an undercover narcotics investigation resulted in a search warrant for 115 S. Hancock St., and Christopher Palmer, 27, and Kelly Ann Murphy, 28, both of whom reside at the home, were arrested for the alleged sale and manufacture of narcotics.
Police said they seized about 4 ounces of marijuana, prescription pills, various drug paraphernalia and $1,850 in cash during the search.
HANOVER TWP. – Township police reported the following:
• Tricia Turner, of Plymouth Street, reported on Wednesday that someone entered her unlocked vehicle while it was parked on Plymouth Street overnight Wednesday into Thursday and stole loose change and compact discs.
