Honor & Respect: What I most learned from my family member who is in the military, was the topic area residents were invited to address in an essay contest sponsored by Family Service Association of Wyoming Valley, Generation 2 Generation, Tri-Vets Community Action Team and The Times Leader.

The contest attracted 187 entries, and finalists were chosen in the elementary, middle-school, high-school, college and adult categories. The winners were announced last weekend during a dinner at First Presbyterian Church in Wilkes-Barre and given a chance to read their essays aloud. For those unable to attend, we are publishing their essays today.
