KINGSTON – On a campaign kickoff tour announcing his candidacy as a Republican in the 10th congressional district race, Dave Madeira made a stop in Luzerne County this afternoon to introduce himself to voters and ask them for their support.
The former chiropractor said he wants to “bring some healing to our nation.” He criticized the district’s two-term congressman, Chris Carney, for not representing the values of the district. He also accused him of “deceiving the district into thinking he’s a Blue Dog Democrat.”
“Look at his voting record,” Madeira said of Carney, adding that he has no doubt he’s a “liberal” but tries to sell his conservative image to voters when he needs votes.
Josh Drobnyk, Carney’s campaign spokesman, said the congressman “is proud to have fought hard to bring investments to our region that boost employment, provide improvements to our region’s hospitals and infrastructure and enable our community’s law enforcement officers to have the equipment they need to keep us safe. He stands up for the needs of our region every day in Congress and will never stop fighting for the many worthy projects throughout our community.”
Madeira, 43, of Lehman Township, will take on Malcolm Derk, of Snyder County and Tom Marino, of Lycoming County in the GOp primary election in May. The winner will likely face Carney in November.
