DALTON - Police officers from two different municipalities responded this morning, Wednesday, Oct. 14, to reports of a man wielding a gun on Route 6 in Dalton, according to police.

Officers were first called to the scene at approximately 8:30 a.m., according to patrolman Paul Wolfe of the South Abington Township Police Department, who assisted Dalton Police Department with the call. According to Wolfe, the lone suspect gave up his weapon to police and is in custody, with no injuries reported.
The incident caused traffic to be closed temporarily in both directions on Route 6, with rush-hour traffic delayed significantly, according to bystander Tricia Richards, a South Abington Township resident.
“I was taking my daughter to preschool and couldn’t access Rt. 6 toward Keystone (College). Traffic on the highway was blocked in both directions,” Richards said. “Police responded quickly, and I questioned one of them. I was told there was a man with a gun, and I was to remain in the car.”
