Headlining the event as keynote speaker was Barry Louis Polisar, a nationally-known children's author and songwriter. A resident of Maryland, Polisar performed several of his songs for the assembled students, before answering many questions from the crowd about his path to becoming an author.
"I told the kids that if you keep working and be creative, that you really can follow your dreams in terms of becoming an author," Polisar said after his keynote address. "It's great to see so many enthusiastic young writers here who are eager to learn and explore."
Following the keynote address, students had the opportunity to branch out and attend several sessions with local authors and photographers. Included in the speakers present was Jeanne Moran, a local author who is in the process of publishing her first young adult novel. Moran hosted a workshop that allowed students to create their own storylines for stories and novels.
