On Tuesday, November 21, Shade Tree Commission members, community volunteers, and students from Keystone College planted 21 street trees in the borough. Several types of trees were planted, including six varieties of crabapple and flowering pear.

Funding for this project came from TreeVitalize, a state program which provides money to increase tree canopy in urban areas.

Beginning Monday, November 23, crews from Rave Landscaping and Design will plant 75 trees along the streets and parks in Factoryville. A large variety of trees will be planted including oak, maple, elm, flowering pear, blackgum, dogwood, London plane tree, and several types of spruce and pine. One of the goals of the planting project is to help manage storm water by replacing tree canopy and slowing runoff.

Funding for this part of the planting came from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 (ARRA), administered by PENNVEST, the Pennsylvania Infrastructure Investment Authority which funds sewer, storm water, and drinking water projects throughout the Commonwealth.
