A Spaghetti Dinner was hosted Sunday, March 14 to raise funds for a
Mason Logan memorial scholarship. Former classmates and friends of the
2009 graduate of Abington Heights High School were organizers and in
attendance at the dinner held at Clarks Summit Fire Company.
Tyler Logan, brother of the late is shown with a photo collage the family put together. Tyler will be presenting the scholarship to the winner at the end of the year on behalf of his family.
Mason died Oct. 8, and while his family and friends continue to mourn
his passing, they feel that the best way to honor his memory is to help
other students achieve in the same light that Mason did during his time
with them. A group of Logan’s family and friends have established the
Mason Logan Scholarship Fund, according to Joseph Hartman, a classmate
and close friend of Logan. Hartman, who helped coordinate Sunday's
dinner said the fund was established with the help of Logan’s parents
and the administration of Abington Heights High School.
“Mason was an all-around great guy,” said Hartman. “I don’t know of
anyone who didn’t like him, or that he didn’t get along with. It will be
a great thing if we can help other students in the same memory.”
According to Hartman, the fund assists future graduates of Abington
Heights in funding their higher education. He also said that academics
will not be the deciding factor in the scholarship’s awarding. Rather,
the scholarship will assist someone with the same qualities of
friendship and brotherhood that Logan displayed.
With the assistance of Hartman’s mother, Catherine, the two friends are
seeking to collect $5 from each member of the Abington Heights High
School Class of 2009 to contribute to the fund. The group has tried to
reach as many classmates as possible and has set up a Facebook group
titled “Mason Logan Scholarship Fund” to help get the word out. In
addition, anyone can contribute to the fund with a donation at any
branch of Penn Security Bank.
