WILKES-BARRE TWP. — A local police department has again garnered national attention for its witty responses on Facebook.

According to “The Chive,” an internet media outlet, “Whoever runs the Facebook at Wilkes-Barre Township is winning at life.”

The online article posted on Friday references responses to posts that bring humor and a bit of sarcasm to those criticizing the department’s attempts to apprehend those who have allegedly engaged in less serious crimes such as shoplifting.

One of those comments on a department post with a photo of a woman wanted for shoplifting reads: “Shoplifting. All of this over shoplifting. Wow, folks, Just wow.” — to which a township police Facebook page administrator replied, “Or, you know, you can just not break the law, that’s good too.”

The page is also quick to utilize GIF images. To a query asking, “Wilkes-Barre Township Police Department, can we be best friends?” the administrator posted a photo of a smiling SpongeBob SquarePants bearing the words “Best friend forever!”

The Times Leader has previously reported on department posts that went viral as well as caused controversy.
