Mrs. Yablonski is the former Nancy Francik Sudol. The couple was married in Orland, Fla., and honeymooned at Disney World. They will celebrate their anniversary this year in Arizona with friends.

Their combined family consists of two daughters who live locally, two sons in Colorado Springs, five grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Mr. and Mrs. Michael Kopec celebrate 50th anniversary Mr. and Mrs. Michael Kopec, of Forty Fort, celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on May 11, 2018.

They were united in marriage by the Rev. Aloysius T. Boylan on May 11, 1968, at Holy Name of Jesus Roman Catholic Church in Swoyersville.

Mr. Michael Kopec is the son of the late Genevieve and Michael Kopec, of Brookside. He is a retired produce manager.

Mrs. Judith Kopec is the daughter of the late Marjorie and Sylvester Reis. She was born in Cincinnati, Ohio. She is a housewife.

Together they have two children, Michael, at home, and a daughter, Jennifer, and her husband, Michael McLaughlin, of Mountain Top.

Bernie and Joanne (Jess) Juskiewicz celebrate 35th anniversary Bernie and Joanne (Jess) Juskiewicz will celebrate their 35th wedding anniversary on May 7, 2018. The Juskiewiczes were married at St. Mary’s of the Maternity Church on Park Avenue in Wilkes-Barre by the Rev. Phil Sladicka on May 7, 1983.

Bernie is the son of Helen Juskiewicz and the late Tony (Jess) Juskiewicz. He is a longtime business owner of a snack food distribution company, delivering to many area grocery stores.

Joanne is the daughter of the late John and Suezanne Stepanski of the Brookside section of Wilkes-Barre. She is currently the secretary in the LPN program at the Wilkes-Barre Vo-Tech School.

The Juskiewiczes have been blessed with two wonderful daughters and one grandson.

Dr. Kristi Clarke is a pharmacist and married to Dr. Scott Clarke, and the couple resides in Hershey. The Clarkes are the proud parents of the Juskiewicz’s grandson, Everett Scott Clarke.

Kate Bethune is a nurse practitioner and married to Ross Bethune, and the couple currently resides in the Washington, D.C., area.

A family celebration will be held to mark the occasion.

Mr. and Mrs. Alvin Berlot Sr. to celebrate 61st anniversary Mr. and Mrs. Alvin Berlot Sr. will celebrate their 61st wedding anniversary on May 4. The couple was married at St. Francis Roman Catholic Church in Nanticoke by the Rev. John Bell on May 4, 1957.

Alvin is the son of the late Joseph and Josephine Berlot, of the Miners Mills section of Wilkes-Barre. He retired as a painting and wallpaper contractor, and an employee of CertainTeed, Mountain Top.

Alma is the daughter of Edward John Slavadore and Elizabeth Salvadore. She retired recently as a nurse specializing in Alzheimer’s disease and mentally challenged children and adults.

The couple is blessed with four children, Dr. Alvin Joseph Berlot Jr., wife sally and daughters Ashley and Erica; Attorney Melissa McCafferty, a defense lawyer in Philadelphia, husband Brian and son Cole; Gina Bunchalk, husband Richard and daughters Brianna and Lauren; and daughter Madonna Trombetta and son Samuel, deceased.

A surprise 61st anniversary was seeing granddaughter Ashley Berlot, student ambassador coordinator for Binghamton University, presiding over remarks for the Admission Center, and later, a wonderful dinner.

They were married by the Rev. Albert Oldfield at Saint Nicholas Church in Wilkes-Barre.

Mr. Malys is the son of the late Henry and Sophie Malys, of Plains Township.

Mrs. Malys is the daughter of the late Joseph and Dorothy Catina, of Wilkes-Barre.

Tom retired from the Wilkes-Barre Area School District in 2002 and from JBC Trucking in Hazleton in 2014.

Dorothea retired from Rite Aid Pharmacy as a pharmacy tech in 2013.

They are the parents of four sons, Thomas Joseph, deceased, Christopher, Matthew and Gerald. They have seven grandchildren, Justina, Emily, Christopher Joseph, Shelby, Aleksa, Marissa and Jaxson Connor, and one great-granddaughter.

To celebrate their anniversary, they are planning a cruise.

Leonard is a former Wilkes-Barre city firefighter retiring as #1 badge in 1996 after nearly 40 years of service. Mary retired from Wilkes-Barre General Hospital in 2002 after 15 years as environmental services supervisor.

The Koval’s have three children, Donna Martin, wife of Jim Martin, of Forty-Fort; Richard Koval, of Laurel Run; and Janet Koval, of Wilkes-Barre. They are grandparents of David Koval, Steven Koval, Jimmy Martin and Kaitlyn Fitzgerald, wife of Mike Fitzgerald. They are also the proud great-grandparents of Lennon (Lenni) Grace Fitzgerald, 14 months.

They will celebrate the blessed event with their family — and at their favorite resort in Atlantic City, N.J.

Attendants were Nicolette Saporito, Sherri Tapia and Joseph Letteer.

Mrs. Tapia is the former Cindy Saporito, daughter of Dorothy Carr, of Kingston, and Frank Saporito, of Swoyersville.

Mr. Tapia is the son of Helen Raitter, of Hanover Township, and the late Lou Tapia, of Hanover Township.

Mrs. Tapia is employed by the Wilkes-Barre Housing Authority as an assistant Section 8 coordinator. Mr. Tapia owns and operates Life Time Windows & Vinyl Siding, Edwardsville.

The couple has two sons, Lou, of Hampton, Va.; and Jason, of Kingston.

They have two granddaughters, Haley, 17, daughter of Lou and Anita Tapia, of Hampton, VA.; and Kaitlyn, 10, daughter of Jason Tapia, of Kingston, and Jodi Yuscavage, of Moosic.

A family party will mark the occasion. A trip to Florida and a cruise will follow.

Mrs. Tapia’s mother, Dorothy Carr, will celebrate her 80th birthday on the same day.

The couple has two children, Lynn Jr. and his wife, Paula; and Megan Palmer and her husband, Dan. Their grandchildren are Caroline, Shawn and Emma, Kaitlyn and Matt.

Mrs. Sheehan is the daughter of the late Anna and August Strazdus. She is retired from The Scranton Times and works part-time at Curry Donuts. Mr. Sheehan is the son of the late Verna and Jack Sheehan. He is retired from Actel Lucent Communications.

The Burkhardts celebrate 65th anniversary Fran and George Burkhardt, White Rock Terrace, Courtdale, will celebrate their 65th wedding anniversary on Valentine’s Day, Feb. 14.

They were married at Sacred Heart Church, Luzerne, by the Rev. George T. Forve. They are the proud parents of George III and Dorean, of Gulfport, Miss.; David and Isabel of Thousand Oaks, Calif.; Jamie and Jane, of Angier, N.C.

Their grandchildren are Sara Wehmeyer of Florida; Jessie and Ed Doherty of Texas; George IV, of Texas; Angelo, of Colorado; Amelia, of New York City; Erin and Brandon, Britta, and James, all of North Carolina.

Great-granddaughters are Ella and Lilly Wehmeyer.

The immediate family celebrated the occasion at George and Dorean Burkhardt’s home in Mississippi, with 19 children and grandchildren attending from nine states.

The happy couple enjoys rail trips, visiting their children, walking and ballroom dancing with a special group of friends.

George and Fran retired in 2016 from the Burkhardt Associates accounting firm.

The Janiczeks celebrate 45th anniversary The Janiczeks recently celebrated their 45th wedding anniversary. They were married Feb. 8, 1973 by Justice of the Peace William f. Howell and the Holy Sacrament on Sept. 21, 1991 by the late Monsignor Bernard A. Toloczko at Holy Trinity Church, now St. Faustina Parish in Naticoke.

Matron of honor Mrs. Linda Marie Walkowiak and best man John Paul Janiczek witnessed the ceremony.

Mrs. Loretta Janiczek, daughter of the late Stephen and Stella Romanowski, graduated from Nanticoke High School and received her registered nurse’s degree from Kings County Hospital in Brooklyn, N.Y. Prior to her retirement, she was employed at Nanticoke State General Hospital. She has a daughter, Linda (husband David), of Dallas; and two granddaughters, Jaclyn Moser, of Chicago, Ill.; and Lindsey Sears (husband Will), of Brooklyn, N.Y.

Mr. Leo Ronald Janiczek, son of the late Anna and Leopold Janiczek, graduated from Nanticoke High School and proudly served his country in the U.S. Air Force. Prior to his retirement, he worked for Liquid Carbonic in Laurel Run. He has two sons, John (wife Lisa); three grandsons, Dr. Jonathan Janiczek (wife Alexa), Jeffrey and Nathan. His son Mark (wife Molly) has two children, Alexandra and Andrew.

William and Mary DeAngelo celebrate their 65th wedding anniversary William Sr. and Mary DeAngelo, of Wilkes-Barre, recently celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary.The couple was united in marriage Dec. 27, 1952, at Holy Rosary Church, Park Avenue, Wilkes-Barre, by the late Rev. Myron Florey.

The late Jennie Rodano, cousin of the bride was maid of honor. Margaret (Gavin) Mersola was a bridesmaid, and niece of the bride Ann Ciavarella was flower girl. The late Paul Ciavarella, brother of the bride, was best man. The late Carl Mersola, brother of the groom, was usher, and Ben Ciavarella, nephew of the bride, was ring bearer.

Mary is the daughter of the late Peter and Jeanette Ciavarella, of Wilkes-Barre, and Bill is the son of the late Anthony and Rosaria DeAngelo, of Center Moreland.

Bill and Mary have two children, daughter, Rosaria and her husband Paul B. Shaver III, of Shavertown, and son, William J. DeAngelo Jr. and his wife BethAnne, of Dallas. They have six grandchildren: Paul IV, Rosemary and Peter Shaver, and William III, Domnique and Dante DeAngelo.

Bill was a boxer and while he was training he met his future wife Mary. He gave up professional boxing and went into construction, building residential homes and then later, commercial structures. Bill and Mary, along with their son, are the owners of DeAngelo Construction of Wilkes-Barre.

Mary and Bill were honored at a 65th anniversary celebration with family and friends at Haystacks Restaurant, Wilkes-Barre.

Ronald Lewis is the son of the late Alex and Celia Lewis of the Bronx, New York, N.Y. Lenore Lewis is the daughter of the late Joseph and Kathryn Ruggere of Kingston.

Ronald and Lenore are both Penn Staters. Ronald is a retired Solid State Materials Scientist. He holds patents for Corning Incorporated, Corning, N.Y. and is the recipient of the National Medal of Technology award, winner of the International Ceramics Prize, and has been inducted into the National Inventors Hall of Fame. Lenore is a retired Title One Reading Teacher and is a current Docent for the Corning Museum of Glass, Corning, New York.

In August, as part of their 50th anniversary celebration, the couple traveled to Idaho to view the total solar eclipse; solar eclipse chasing is a hobby of theirs.

Mr. and Mrs. Chester J. Zaremba celebrate 50th wedding anniversary Mr. and Mrs. Chester J. Zaremba, of Nanticoke, celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary. They were married on Nov. 25, 1967, in Holy Trinity Church, Nanticoke, by the late Rev. Walter Poplowski.

Best man was the late twin brother of the bride, Henry Krygier, and the maid of honor was Diane Kempinski Krygier.

Groomsmen were the late Benjamin Grevera, Thomas Zaremba, and the late Leonard Strong. Bridesmaids were Patricia Laska Grevera, the late Bonnie Kwasny Zaremba and Wanda Popeck Zelinski. Junior bridesmaids were Karen Uranowski and Christine Zaremba. The flower girl was JoAnn Michaels, and the ring bearer was Tony Nowak.

Mrs. Zaremba is the former Henrietta Ann Krygier, daughter of the late Joseph and Mary (O’Konski) Krygier, of Nanticoke. Mr. Zaremba is the son of the late Chester and Bertha (Ramus) Zaremba, all of Nanticoke.

They are the parents of one son, Michael, married to the former Megan Tennesen, and are the proud grandparents of Tyler, 17, a senior at GNA High School, and Braden, 13, an eighth-grade student at GNA.

Mr. Zaremba is a retired Pennsylvania State Police sergeant, and also a retired chief of police of the city of Nanticoke.

Donald and Charlotte Watchulonis celebrate 60th wedding anniversary Donald and Charlotte Watchulonis, Dallas, celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary on Oct. 26, 2017. They were married by the Rev. Francis Kane in 1957 at Gate of Heaven Church in Dallas.

Mrs. Watchulonis is the daughter of the late Helen and Frank Michael, Sr. Prior to retiring, Mrs. Watchulonis owned and operated Hilltop Nursery School for more than 20 years in Dallas. Mr. Watchulonis is the son of late Josephine and William Watchulonis, Sr. and is retired from Offset Paperback Manufacturers, Inc. after almost 30 years of employment.

They are the proud parents of eight children and grandchildren: Anne and her husband, Larry Rumpf, Doylestown, Pa.; Dianne; Donald and his fiancée, Sarah, Dallas, Pa.; Susan and her husband, James Case, Coplay, Pa.; Maribeth and her husband, Gary Krawetz, and their children, Jared and Julia, Dallas, Pa.; Michael and his wife, Vicki, and their children, Siena and Merida, Lilburn, Ga.; Claire and her husband, James Hammersley, Jr., and their children, Elliott, Quinlan and Schuler, Tunkhannock, Pa.; and Daniel and his wife Valentina, Los Angeles, Ca.

The occasion will be celebrated with family events by children and grandchildren.

Mr. and Mrs. Paul Schmidt celebrate 45th wedding anniversary Mr. and Mrs. Paul Schmidt, of the Hudson Section of Plains Township, celebrated their 45th wedding anniversary Sept. 30, 2017. They were married in Sacred Heart of Jesus Church, North Main Street, Plains Township.

Mrs. Schmidt is the former Judy Filippini, daughter of Valeria Filippini and the late Omero Filippini. Judy was employed by Social Security Administration, Plains Township, before her retirement.

Mr. Schmidt is the son of the late Frederick B. and Jean Schmidt. He was employed by The Sherwin-Williams Co., prior to his retirement.

The couple is blessed with one son, Gregory J. Schmidt and his wife, Michele of Monroe, North Carolina.

Paul and Judy have four wonderful grandsons, Peter, Kyle, Christian and Daniel.

The couple celebrated the occasion with a family dinner.
