Mr. and Mrs. John J. Grigas celebrate 50th wedding anniversary

Mr. and Mrs. John J. Grigas, of Tunkhannock, recently celebrated their 50th golden wedding anniversary July 8, 2017. They were married July 8, 1967 at St. Mary’s of the Maternity Catholic Church by the late Msgr. Edward Manikowski.

The wedding party consisted of family and friends. Maid of honor was Sylvia Lewandowski Lukasiewicz, cousin of the bride. Bridesmaids were Mary Ann Nardell Schmalzle, Jane Klepadlo Woytowicz and Ellen Zonko.

Best man was Anthony Grigas, brother of the groom. Ushers were William Grigas, William Yanick and Edward Bonk.

Mrs. Grigas is the former Geraldine Rose Elick, daughter of the late Charles and Julia Weiss Elick. Mr. Grigas is the son of the late Peter and Violet Marcincavage Grigas.

They were blessed with three children, Sherry, John Jr., and Sandra. Sherry is a pharmacist manager with Pharmerica Corporation. Her husband, Steve, is a teacher at Fleetwood Area School District. John Jr. is a pharmacist manager at Giant Pharmacy. His wife, Michelle, is a pharmacist with Giant Pharmacy. Sandra is a biology and anatomy teacher at Plymouth Whitemarsh High School. Her husband, Marc, is the principal of Westbrook Park Elementary School in Upper Darby. The couple has seven grandchildren: Matthew, Adam, Julia, Meredith, lan, Grace and Colin.

John was employed at Procter and Gamble for 38 years.

The couple attended the annual Diocese of Scranton Wedding Anniversary Mass and reception in June at St Peter’s Cathedral, Scranton, where they had their marriage blessed by Bishop Bambera. The occasion was celebrated with a family get together and dinner at Shady Maple, East Earl. Photo Photo
