WILKES-BARRE – A 20-year-old male attempted to hang himself with a sheet at
the Luzerne County Correctional Facility on Sunday night.

According to scanner reports, the inmate was found hanging in his cell just
before 9 p.m. Medics reported he had been hanging for approximately 20 minutes
before a prison employee found him and cut him down.
The unidentified male suffered a cardiac arrest and was transported to
Wilkes-Barre General Hospital.

A woman answering the phone at the prison said she could not comment on the
attempted suicide and referred all questions to Warden Gene Fischi, who she
said would not be in until this morning.

No further information was available at press time.
