SCRANTON – Adelphia Cable has raised basic rates almost 6 percent, but is
eliminating monthly charges for multiple outlets.
The higher charges and new rate structure went into effect Saturday and
apply to customers in the Scranton/Dunmore system, including former Verto
customers.
Dallas-area customers are not affected by the announcement.
The monthly rate for satellite service with 73 channels is now $42.99, up
from $40.65, not including franchise fees and taxes, which vary by
municipality. With franchise fees and taxes, the bill for basic service is now
more than $45.
Under the new “whole-house service” rate structure, customers will no
longer pay a 95-cents per outlet charge for two or more televisions.
For a customer with four televisions – now paying $2.85 per month in outlet
charges – whole-house service will offset the rate increase.
The monthly rate for customers opting for minimum service of 22 channels
also has increased to $11 from $10.50.
“Adelphia, like any other business, has to be in a position to not simply
sustain our business but to continue to grow the operations, deliver
exceptional customer care on a consistent basis and continuously enhance our
suite of products and services,” said Linda Moran, Northeast Pennsylvania
area marketing manager, in a prepared statement.
Adelphia also has launched The Hallmark Channel for Scranton/Dunmore system
customers.
The Hallmark Channel’s programming includes a mix of original programs,
movies and miniseries, including Hallmark Hall of Fame movies.
Last month, Service Electric raised its rates 11 percent to $39.96, not
including franchise fees and taxes, for the first television. The company’s
only package includes 71 channels. Service Electric customers pay extra for
multiple outlets.
