ANYONE WHO WAS at the boys doubleheader at Hazleton High School on Friday
came away from a very evident conclusion: Meyers, GAR and Northwest as squads
and schools show much spirit. This was clearly lacking with Crestwood. One has
to wonder whether years of infighting between the administration and the
teachers is affecting the students. Those students who attend Crestwood – all
one can figure is it must not be a very stimulating place to attend school
because they’ve surely blew it on the court and in the stands.
I AGREE WITH the deer hunters who called in and suggest that Gary Alt be
shipped out to Colorado or Washington, or wherever he applied for jobs. He can
take his “Save The Trees” deer program with him.
I’M CALLING ABOUT your NHL coverage. Granted, we’ve got the little Penguins
down here. But most real hockey fans in this area are Flyers’ fans.
Seventy-five to 80 percent of the people who have season tickets to the
Penguins didn’t even know what hockey was until three years ago. I know
because I go to a couple of the games. So I think you should start putting the
Flyers as your top story, not the Penguins. After all, the Flyers are in third
place in their conference, and the Penguins suck.
HAVING SOMEONE GO hunting a few times and then calling in about deer
management is like having a person view a couple of operations and then
criticize the surgeon. I think when some of these hunters get their Ph.D’s in
wildlife management, they’d be on better footing to criticize Dr. Gary Alt and
his program.
I ATTENDED THE Hazleton Area-Abington Heights district girls final on
Saturday. I have a couple of questions. This neutral site at the University of
Scranton – how far is that from Abington Heights and how far is it from
Hazleton? How do these geniuses at the PIAA determine that only one District 2
team gets to advance in the tournament, while District 1 and District 3 get to
send their plethora of teams into the inter-districts. Hazleton Area has to be
one of the top teams in the east, if not the entire state. I think this is a
travesty.
EDITOR’S NOTE: District 2 has seven 4A schools in girls basketball.
District 3 has 38 and District 1 has 48. It would be a travesty if one of
those districts just got one team.
