Attorney Harry P. “Hap” Mattern of Kingston has announced his candidacy
for Judge of the Court of Common Pleas of Luzerne County. He will seek both
the Republican and Democratic nominations.
   
He has practiced law in the county for the past 27 years, and has served as
Kingston’s solicitor for the past six years. He is a graduate of Central
Catholic High School (now Bishop O’Reilly High School), a 1970 graduate of
King’s College and a 1975 graduate of the University of Pittsburgh School of
Law.
    Mattern is a U.S. Army veteran who served on active duty from 1970-72,
according to his press release.
   
Mattern is admitted to practice in the U.S. Supreme Court, the U.S. Court
of Military Appeals and all courts of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. He is
a member of the Luzerne County Bar Association and Pennsylvania Bar
Association.
   
He is married and has five children. He is a lector at St. Ignatius Parish
and serves as president of the Wyoming Valley West Girls Tennis Booster
Association.
   
Kingston Mayor Jim Haggerty is the chairman of Mattern’s campaign,
according to the release.
